  • Abstract
    Purpoe Macular hole caue retinal detachment in highly myopic eye. Becaue degenerative macular change often coexit, biomicrocopic evaluation of macular hole tatu after retinal reattachment i ometime difficult. We tudied macular hole with retinal detachment after vitrectomy uing optical coherence tomography and evaluated the anatomic tatu of the hole and factor aociated with anatomic ucce. Deign Retropective, nonrandomized, comparative tudy. Patient ixteen eye that underwent vitrectomy for retinal detachment aociated with a macular hole were included. Internal limiting membrane peeling with indocyanine green wa performed in 14 eye; the epiretinal membrane wa peeled with a diamond-duted membrane craper alone in two eye. All retina reattached potoperatively. The follow-up period at the optical coherence tomography examination wa at leat 6 month. Method Optical coherence tomography wa performed vertically and horizontally, and the preence of a peritent macular hole wa determined. Other information wa obtained from patient record. Reult The macular hole cloed in even of 16 eye (44%). Age, ex, axial length, preoperative bet-corrected viual acuity, duration of ymptom, preoperative refractive error, and the preoperative area of the retinal detachment were not ignificantly correlated with hole cloure. Improved potoperative bet-corrected viual acuity (P < .05) wa ignificantly aociated with macular hole cloure, and more frequent viual improvement (P = .06) wa of borderline ignificance. Concluion The ucce rate wa lower than thoe obtained in eye without myopia or in myopic macular hole without retinal detachment. Macular hole cloure may predict improved viual outcome for patient with retinal detachment and macular hole.
