Abstract
Purpoe
To decribe potential pitfall in the ue of optical coherence tomography for management of diabetic macular edema.
Deign
Propective, noninterventional cae erie.
Method
Review of optical coherence tomograph in 13 eye with clinically ignificant diabetic macular edema from 11 conecutive patient in a private retina practice.
Reult
Optical coherence tomography diplay are baed on 3.5–mm or 6–mm diameter circular grid that look very imilar and have identical ector name but chematize different area of the macula. The numeric output for the identically named ector in the two diplay do not differ ignificantly for retinal thickne but differ ignificantly in all ector except the fovea for retinal volume becaue of the different area repreented by the ector.
Concluion
Failure to explicitly note the cale of the optical coherence tomography diplay can potentially midirect planned focal and grid laer treatment for diabetic macular edema. Failure to explicitly verify identical optical coherence tomography diplay cale in longitudinal tudie of laer treatment for diabetic macular edema can potentially lead to error in interpreting treatment efficacy.
