Abstract :
Purpoe
To tudy the effect of prematurity on monocular chromatic contrat threhold (CCT) and achromatic contrat enitivity (AC).
Deign
Cae–control tudy.
Method
A propective tudy of 59 children born at le than 33 week’ getation wa undertaken. ubject were identified during routine neonatal creening for retinopathy of prematurity and recalled for teting at age 7 to 13 year. Five had tage 1 retinopathy of prematurity, even had tage 2, and three had tage 3. ixty-eight full-term children were recruited a control. Thoe with major cerebral or eye dieae were excluded. The CCT and AC were meaured monocularly in the eye with better viual acuity uing tatic, computer-generated, inuoidal grating, diplayed on a high-reolution monitor. The CCT and AC were determined uing a randomized double-taircae reveral algorithm. The AC wa meaured at five patial frequencie (0.22, 0.44, 0.88, 1.75, and 3.50 cycle/degree), and the CCT wa meaured along red–green and tritan confuion axe.
Reult
Red–green (P = .326) and tritan (P = .910) contrat threhold and AC (P > .394 for all patial frequencie) were imilar to the control group.
Concluion
Previou reearch ugget that prematurity adverely affect color viion and AC. Thi tudy ued a computerized pychophyical tet that minimized the tet error inherent in many previou tudie. Unexpectedly, CCT and AC were found to be imilar to full-term children.
