Abstract :
Purpoe
To invetigate the correlation between viual acuity, contrat enitivity, and contrat enitivity with glare ource (glare enitivity), and the degree of poterior capule opacification (PCO) before and after neodymium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Nd:YAG) laer poterior capulotomy.
Deign
Propective interventional cae erie.
Method
Eighty-four patient (90 peudophakic eye) cheduled to undergo Nd:YAG laer capulotomy were recruited. Viual acuity and contrat enitivity with and without the preence of a circular glare ource (uing the contrat glare teter) were meaured before and after Nd:YAG laer capulotomy. The PCO denity value wa meaured uing a cheimpflug videophotography ytem. The viual function were tatitically correlated with the PCO value.
Reult
Before Nd:YAG laer capulotomy, trong correlation exited between the PCO value and viual acuity (r = 0.728). Contrat enitivity and glare enitivity were alo weakly correlated with the PCO value, but the correlation coefficient were maller than that of viual acuity. After Nd:YAG laer capulotomy, mean viual acuity, contrat enitivity, and glare enitivity at all viual angle improved ignificantly (P <.0001). After capulotomy, no ignificant correlation wa found between viual acuity, contrat enitivity, or glare enitivity and the PCO value.
Concluion
Before Nd:YAG laer capulotomy, viual function correlated ignificantly with the degree of PCO. pecifically, viual acuity ha a tronger aociation with PCO than doe contrat enitivity or glare enitivity and therefore hould be conidered to reflect mot accurately the degree of PCO. After capulotomy, thee viual function improve markedly and no longer have a ignificant correlation with PCO.
