Abstract :
Purpoe
To advance the knowledge of the ophthalmologit with regard to new development in the genetic and pathologic mechanim of uveiti.
Deign
A review of recently publihed literature exploring the relationhip between the nucleotide oligomerization domain (NOD2) gene and uveiti.
Reult
Mutation in the nucleotide-binding region of NOD2 were found to be reponible for familial juvenile ytemic granulomatoi (Blau yndrome or Jab dieae), a rare form of uveiti, arthriti, and dermatiti. The NOD2 gene i thought to be involved in the innate immune repone to pathogen. Currently, the pathologic mechanim behind Blau yndrome in familial juvenile ytemic granulomatoi are unknown, but the interaction of NOD2 with capae, nuclear factor κB, and other pathway are lowly being revealed.
Concluion
A ingle amino acid change in NOD2 can lead to a chronic granulomatou uveiti. By tudying NOD2 and the protein that interact with NOD2, we hould gain a better undertanding of the pathogenic mechanim of uveiti and identify novel way to halt it detructive conequence.
