To determine a relevant et of concern that parent expre a expectation regarding their children’ eye care.
Deign
Qualitative, cro-ectional, pilot tudy.
Method
A total of 48 interview were conducted with parent of pediatric ophthalmology patient at Duke Univerity Eye Center and the McGovern Davidon Children’ Health Center at Duke Univerity to elicit parent’ expectation regarding their children’ eye care. Interview were audiotaped, trancribed, and coded for parent expectation.
Reult
Content analyi of trancript from the 48 interview yielded 35 different expectation area for eye care, which were further claified into ix group: (1) Communication, (2) Interperonal Manner, (3) Doctor’ kill, (4) Examination and Teting, (5) Logitic, and (6) Other. The ix expectation area mot frequently identified by parent a the ingle “mot important” expectation were the following: (1) Clinical Competence, (2) Interaction with Child, (3) Education/Training, (4) Explanation in Clear Language, (5) Information about Diagnoi, and (6) Peronal Connection.
Concluion
Parent of pediatric ophthalmology patient expreed expectation area in the Communication group more frequently than any other group. However, when aked to identify their ingle mot important expectation area, more than half of parent identified Clinical Competence.
