Abstract :
Purpoe
To tudy whether the benefit of lowering of intraocular preure (IOP) varie according to certain trait.
Deign
Randomized clinical trial, econdary analyi.
Method
Viual field data were analyzed from 144 ubject (144 eye) randomized not to receive IOP-lowering treatment or to have the IOP lowered by 30%. urvival analye were applied to compare time to progreion between group. Change in mean deviation global index over time were compared with multilevel random effect model.
Reult
By univariate analyi, the mot readily demontrated treatment benefit occurred in patient without baeline dik hemorrhage, of female gender, with family hitory of glaucoma, without family hitory of troke, without peronal hitory of cardiovacular dieae, and with mild dik excavation; IOP lowering benefited female with migraine (P < .05) but perhap without eliminating all migraine-aociated rik.
Concluion
It i uggeted that different factor may contribute to the glaucomatou optic neuropathy in different cae of normal tenion glaucoma, interacting with IOP to different degree and, thereby, affecting the magnitude of benefit of IOP lowering. Further tudy i required to etablih interaction that would have implication for undertanding the dieae mechanim in glaucomatou cupping, for guiding development of new treatment modalitie, and for making clinical deciion regarding prognoi and management of individual patient.
