Abstract :
Purpoe To determine the viual outcome of eye that underwent macular tranlocation urgery with 360 degree peripheral retinectomy and ilicone oil tamponade (MT360) following ocular photodynamic therapy (OPT) with verteporfin for ubfoveal choroidal neovacularization (CNV) aociated with age-related macular degeneration (ARMD). Deign Obervational cae erie. Method A retropective review of patient who underwent MT360 with ilicone oil tamponade from Augut 5, 1998 through December 1, 2002. Patient who had at leat one epiode of OPT with verteporfin before urgery were identified. The number of OPT eion, bet-corrected Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy tudy (ETDR) viual acuity, complication (including potoperative CNV, retinal detachment [RD]), the preence or abence of cytoid macular edema (CME) by optical coherence tomography (OCT) were recorded. Reult Eight eye of eight patient were identified that fulfilled the incluion criteria. All eye had at leat one epiode of OPT (mean, 1.5 treatment). All of thee patient at the time of MT360 demontrated continued viual lo following the mot recent OPT eion. The mean preoperative viual acuity wa 56 letter. Four of the eight eye demontrated CME by OCT on preoperative examination. There were no ignificant potoperative complication other than one eye that had a ucceful repair of an RD. At 3 month, the mean viual acuity wa 54 letter. At lat follow-up (mean, 10 month), the mean viual acuity wa 61 letter (P = .5). The final mean viual acuity change for the patient who had only one prior OPT (five eye) wa +10 letter. The mean final viual acuity change for the patient who had multiple OPT eion (three eye) wa −1 letter. Three of the four eye that had preoperative CME continued to demontrate CME at lat follow-up. Two eye that had concurrent cataract extraction urgery with MT360 did not develop CME. No eye developed a recurrent CNV during the potoperative period. Concluion MT360 with ilicone oil tamponade for CNV aociated with ARMD appear to be a viable option for patient who are continuing to loe viion in their better eeing eye following OPT with verteporfin. MT360 appear to be effective in tabilizing viion, epecially in patient who had previouly undergone only one OPT eion. Further tudie are indicated to evaluate the efficacy of MT360 in thi current era of OPT.
