Abstract :
Purpoe
To localize in the brain uing poitron emiion tomography neuroimaging with 18fluorodeoxyglucoe [PET (18FDG)] difference in glucoe metabolim between patient with eential blepharopam (EB) and control.
Deign
Propective cae-control tudy
Method
Poitron emiion tomography neuroimaging with 18fluorodeoxyglucoe wa performed in 11 patient with EB and 11 control matched for age and gender. Global analyi of image wa ued to localize difference in glucoe metabolim between group.
Reult
Multiple cortical and ubcortical abnormalitie were oberved in EB patient in comparion with control. Cortical area with the larget and mot ignificant cluter of increaed glucoe uptake were the inferior frontal gyri, right poterior cingulate gyru, left middle occipital gyru, fuiform gyru of the right temporal lobe, and left anterior cingulate gyru. Cortical area with the larget and mot ignificant cluter of decreaed glucoe uptake were the inferior frontal gyri, ventral to the area of increaed glucoe metabolim. ubcortical abnormalitie, coniting of increaed glucoe uptake, involved the right caudate and coniting of decreaed glucoe uptake, involved the left inferior cerebellar hemiphere and thalamu.
Concluion
Global analyi of poitron emiion tomography neuroimaging with 18fluorodeoxyglucoe neuroimaging in EB patient in comparion with control demontrate a pattern of abnormalitie involving everal cortical and ubcortical area that control blinking, including the inferior frontal lobe, caudate, thalamu, and cerebellum.
