Abstract :
Purpoe
To determine if topographic difference exit between large cup-to-dik ratio (C/D) eye with tandard achromatic automated perimetry (AP) abnormalitie and thoe with only hort-wavelength automated perimetry (WAP) abnormalitie.
Deign
Cro-ectional tudy.
Method
The etting wa a referral univerity-baed clinical practice. We elected one eye of 72 patient with a vertical C/D of at leat 0.8 by ophthalmocopy. Patient performed WAP, AP, and confocal canning laer ophthalmocopy. We compared optic dik topography in eye with and without viual field abnormalitie and controlled for the influence of dik area.
Reult
Dik area wa a confounder of many topographic meaure. After controlling for dik area, eye with abnormal AP had difference in rim volume, cup hape, rim area, retinal nerve fiber layer thickne, and retinal nerve fiber layer cro-ectional area when compared with eye with normal AP (P < .05). Rim volume and rim area were different in the WAP comparion (P < .05).
Concluion
Invetigator hould control for dik area when evaluating topographic meaure by confocal canning laer ophthalmocopy. In eye with a large C/D, optic dik topography i more glaucomatou in eye with AP abnormalitie than in thoe with only WAP abnormalitie. Eye with large C/D and only WAP abnormalitie may have fewer glaucomatou optic dik change than uch eye with AP abnormalitie. Thi indicate that WAP i likely to correpond to abnormalitie in optic dik topography at an earlier tage of glaucomatou optic neuropathy than AP. Therefore, clinician hould conider WAP teting in glaucoma upect to detect glaucomatou viual field lo at an earlier tage of tructural lo.
