Abstract :
Purpoe
To invetigate the potoperative hypertenive phae (HP) in patient undergoing glaucoma drainage implant urgery.
Deign
Interventional cae erie.
Method
A retropective chart review of 156 conecutive eye (139 patient) who underwent placement of an Ahmed Glaucoma Valve (AGV) with a follow-up of ≥3 month wa performed. Main outcome meaure were occurrence and reolution of the HP and intraocular preure (IOP) control. The HP wa defined a IOP > 21 mm Hg during the firt 3 month after urgery. Reolution of the HP wa defined a an IOP < 22 mm Hg and an IOP reduction of 3 mm Hg with the ame or fewer number of glaucoma medication.
Reult
An HP wa oberved in 88 eye (56%). It occurred after a mean of 5.0 week (median, 4 week; range, 1–13 week) with an average (± tandard deviation) peak IOP of 30.1 (± 7.5) mm Hg. Reolution of the HP occurred in 19 of 68 eye (28%) with available data. Eye with an HP had a higher mean IOP and needed more medication 6 to 12 month after urgery than eye without an HP (17.2 ± 5.6 v 14.3 ± 5.8 mm Hg; P = .012 and 1.7 ± 1.2 v 0.3 ± 0.6 medication; P < .001, repectively).
Concluion
A hypertenive phae occur frequently after implantation of the AGV. However, it reolve in only a minority of eye. The majority of eye with an HP have no ignificant improvement of IOP control and continue to require the ame number of glaucoma medication a they did during the HP.
