Nonarteritic anterior ichemic optic neuropathy and urgery of the anterior egment: temporal relationhip analyi

Purpoe Thi tudy analyze the temporal relationhip between intraocular len urgery and nonarteritic anterior ichemic optic neuropathy (NAION). Deign Retropective cohort tudy. Method Eighteen cae of NAION in 17 ubject occurring within 1 year after len-related urgery were identified with a retropective review of patient diagnoed with NAION. The temporal relationhip between NAION onet and urgery wa evaluated by uing an exact chi-quare tet of goodne of fit to compare the oberved with a uniform ditribution, which would be expected if intraocular urgery were not caual. Reult All 18 cae occurred within 6 month of urgery (mean interval, 35 day; range, 1–130 day), which i ignificantly different from a uniform ditribution (P < .001). Concluion Our data indicate that intraocular len urgery i aociated with the occurrence of NAION.
