Retinal detachment from inadvertent intraocular injection of botulinum toxin A

Purpoe To report a cae of inadvertent intraocular injection of botulinum toxin A (Botox, BTA) reulting in a retinal tear and bullou retinal detachment. The retinal detachment reolved pontaneouly, and the tear wa treated with laer demarcation with good viual outcome. Deign Interventional cae report. Method A 36-year-old woman underwent Botox injection for paralytic eotropia and developed ocular perforation. Dilated fundu examination howed a lit-like retinal tear infranaally with a bullou retinal detachment naally. Reult The retinal detachment pontaneouly reolved, and the patient wa treated with laer demarcation on the following day. After 2 more day, her viion returned to baeline. Concluion Botox did not appear toxic to human intraocular tiue. Cloe obervation may be indicated in the event of an inadvertent intraocular Botox injection.
