Abstract
Purpoe
To evaluate total plama homocyteine (tHcy) level in patient diagnoed with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and normal ubject.
Deign
Cae-control tudy.
Method
Thi tudy involved 55 POAG patient, 16 patient with econdary open-angle glaucoma or angle-cloure glaucoma (non-POAG group), and 39 control healthy ubject undergoing ocular urgery. All glaucoma patient had characteritic glaucomatou optic dik damage and viual field lo. Fating tHcy concentration of all tudy participant were determined uing high-performance liquid chromatography. Analyi of variance wa ued to compare homocyteine level among the three diagnotic group, and multivariate analyi wa conducted to ae the aociation between tHcy and diagnotic group, age, gender, moking tatu, ytemic hypertenion, hyperlipidemia, and cardiovacular or cerebrovacular dieae.
Reult
Mean ± tandard deviation of tHcy level in POAG individual, non-POAG patient and control ubject wa 14.90 ± 6.45 μmol/l, 14.30 ± 4.35 μmol/l, and 14.81 ± 4.56 μmol/l, repectively (P = .93; ANOVA). No tatitically ignificant difference wa found in the proportion of patient with abnormal tHcy level among the three diagnotic group. In multivariate analyi, only age and poitive moking tatu were ignificantly correlated with total plama homocyteine level.
Concluion
No ignificant difference wa found in plama homocyteine level among POAG patient and normal control individual.
