Abstract :
Purpoe Optic pathway glioma (pilocytic atrocytoma) in neurofibromatoi type 1 (NF-1) typically involve ome combination of the optic nerve, chiam, or optic tract. Involvement of the optic radiation i rare. Deign Thi paper decribe even patient with NF-1 with glioma involving the pregeniculate optic pathway in addition to the optic radiation. Method A retropective databae review wa made of all patient with NF-1 and optic pathway glioma een by one of the author (G.T.L.) at the Childrenʹ Hopital of Philadelphia from July 1993 to October 2001. Patient with involvement of pregeniculate optic pathway and the optic radiation were identified. From November 2001 to February 2003, patient were ought propectively. Cae were alo identified from the practice of another author (M.C.B.) at Arkana Childrenʹ Hopital. Reult Four patient from Childrenʹ Hopital of Philadelphia (three of 83 total NF-1/optic pathway glioma from July 1993 to October 2001 and one propectively) and three from Arkana Childrenʹ Hopital were identified. Two had expanding ma leion within the white matter of the temporal or parietal lobe, which were hitopathologically demontrated to be pilocytic atrocytoma. The other five had radiographic involvement of the optic radiation but did not undergo biopy. In three of the cae the viion wa 20/200 or wore in each eye. Concluion Optic pathway glioma in NF-1 may rarely involve the optic radiation. Optic radiation involvement may ignal a more aggreive optic pathway glioma in patient with neurofibromatoi-1.
