Abstract :
Purpoe
To viualize retinal pigment epithelial cell in vivo by fundu autofluorecence imaging uing a confocal canning laer ophthalmocope.
Deign
Experimental tudy and obervational cae report.
Method
Digital in vivo autofluorecence image were recorded with a confocal canning laer ophthalmocope (excitation, 488 nm; emiion, >500 nm) and compared with confocal canning laer ophthalmocope and fluorecence microcopic recording from human donor eye.
Reult
A uniform pattern of the polygonal retinal pigment epithelial cell layer wa viualized in vivo outide of aborbing retinal veel and macular pigment. Autofluorecence intenitie of individual cell howed marked variation. The pattern correponded to in vitro finding. Viualization i baed on the topographic ditribution of autofluorecent lipofucin granule and melanin granule in apical retinal pigment epithelium cytoplam.
Concluion
High-reolution autofluorecence imaging may be ueful to determine morphologic and lipofucin-dependent alteration in retinal dieae and may be applicable for monitoring effect of therapeutic intervention targeting the retinal pigment epithelium.
