  • Abstract
Purpoe To invetigate the relationhip between tatin and apirin ue and the rik of choroidal neovacularization (CNV) in patient with age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Deign Retropective conecutive cae erie. Method All patient 60 year and older with AMD who were een between January 1, 1990, and March 1, 2003, at the an Francico Veteran Affair Hopital Eye Clinic with fundu photograph were included. Patient with other diagnoe predipoing to CNV or incomplete medical record were excluded. The main outcome meaure wa angiographically evident CNV. Diagnoi wa baed on review of fundu photograph and fluorecein angiogram in maked fahion; medical record were reviewed for variable poibly predipoing to CNV or tatin ue. For patient with CNV, age of onet wa recorded; thoe without CNV were treated a cenored. Age-related macular degeneration dieae tatu and time of onet of CNV wa compared between patient treated or not treated with tatin for at leat 6 month. Reult Of 326 patient with AMD, 104 had CNV, 204 had dry AMD, and 18 had geographic atrophy (GA). Of CNV ubject, 21 (20%) ued tatin, compared with 77 (38%) of dry AMD ubject without GA and 6 (33%) of control with GA (hazard ratio = 0.51, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.31–0.86, P = .01). Apirin ue wa alo ignificantly aociated with decreaed rate of CNV; 62 CNV ubject (60%) ued apirin, compared with 154 (75%) dry AMD ubject without GA or 12 (67%) with GA (hazard ratio = 0.63, 95% CI = 0.40–0.98, P = .04). Concluion Therapy with tatin or apirin i aociated with decreaed rate of CNV among AMD patient. Additional tudy with a propective and/or randomized trial of tatin and apirin ue in AMD patient i warranted.
