Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluate the early change in retinal function after photodynamic therapy (PDT) by multifocal electroretinogram (mfERG). Deign Propective interventional cae erie. Method eventeen eye from 17 patient cheduled for tandard PDT with verteporfin were propectively recruited. Patientʹ diagnoe included choroidal neovacularization (CNV) econdary to age-related macular degeneration, idiopathic CNV, myopic CNV, polypoidal choroidal vaculopathy, and central erou chorioretinopathy. erial mfERG recording were performed before PDT, and at 4 day, 2 week, and 1 month after PDT. The firt-order kernel N1 and P1 mfERG repone from the central 0 to 7 degree and peripheral 7 to 25 degree were grouped and analyzed. The mean repone amplitude and peak latencie of the mfERG recording were compared longitudinally. Reult There were tatitically ignificant reduction in the mean N1 repone amplitude for the central group at 4 day (P = .007) and 2 week after PDT (P = .024), in the mean P1 repone amplitude for both the central (P = .006) and peripheral (P = .013) group at 4 day, and for the central group at 2 week after PDT (P = .017). There were alo tatitically ignificant increae in the mean P1 repone latencie at 4 day (P = .004) and at 2 week (P = .018) after PDT for the central group and at 4 day after PDT (P = .026) for the peripheral group. At 1 month after PDT, no ignificant difference in the N1 and P1 mean repone amplitude and peak latencie were oberved compared with pre-PDT mfERG. Concluion Tranient impairment in retinal function for a long a 2 week after PDT were noticed by reduction in repone amplitude and a delay in peak latencie of mfERG. Thee finding may explain the common advere event of ubjective viual diturbance early after PDT with normal finding in viual acuity and ophthalmocopy.
