Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate the ue of leaded afety glae to block radiation and allow for viion during ophthalmic plaque radiation therapy.
Deign
Interventional cae erie.
Method
Eight patient were treated with palladium 103 ophthalmic plaque radiotherapy and meaured for emitted radiation while wearing leaded glae or a lead patch. Radiation emiion wa meaured at 1 m o a to compare the glaeʹ ability to block radiation in vivo.
Reult
In two patient the tumor wa in the patientʹ only eeing eye, and the leaded radiation afety glae allowed them to function (feed themelve and walk to the bathroom unaited). In two additional patient, the glae allowed binocularity and were preferred over the patch. Meaurement revealed that both the lead patch and leaded radiation afety glae reduced expoure to level acceptable for dicharge to home in New York City.
Concluion
Leaded radiation afety glae improved patientʹ quality of life without acrificing radiation afety.
