Abstract :
Purpoe To quantify autofluorecence (AF) level in patient with targardt macular dytrophy-fundu flavimaculatu (TGD-FFM), and to identify pattern of AF. Deign Obervational, comparative tudy. Method Propective tudy. etting Patient were recruited at Moorfield Eye Hopital. tudy population Forty-three TGD-FFM patient aged 20 to 40 year and 35 age-matched normal volunteer. The right eye wa choen arbitrarily for meaure of AF. Intervention The AF image were obtained uing a confocal canning laer ophthalmocope. Level of AF acro the macula were meaured. The ditribution of AF wa alo evaluated. In 36 patient (84%) pattern electroretinogram (PERG) and full-field ERG were obtained and reult were evaluated with repect to level of AF. Main outcome meaure Value of AF, AF ditribution, PERG, and ERG. Reult Normal or high AF at the center of the macula with high AF temporally or naally or both wa detected in 17 patient (39%). In nine (21%), low AF at the center of the macula with normal or low AF temporally or naally or both wa found. Level of AF were normal throughout the macula in ix patient (14%). In 11 (26%), high, normal, and low level of AF were found. All patient teted with low AF at the center of the macula and normal or low AF temporally or naally or both had peripheral cone/rod dyfunction. None of the patient teted that had normal or high AF at the fovea and high AF temporally or naally, or normal AF throughout the macula, had peripheral cone/rod dyfunction. Concluion AF i not univerally high in TGD-FFM. ome patient have normal or low AF. Autofluorecence pattern appear to relate to functional abnormalitie
