ucceful management of cataract urgery aociated vitreou lo with uturele mall-gauge par plana vitrectomy

Purpoe To invetigate the efficacy of 25-gauge elf-ealing uturele par plana vitrectomy (PPV) in the management of vitreou lo aociated with phacoemulification. Deign Retropective noncomparative cae erie. Method We conducted a retropective chart review of 29 patient who underwent a newly decribed urgical technique, elf-ealing uturele PPV for the management of vitreou lo during phacoemulification. The 29 eye included in the tudy were analyzed for age, ex, race, poterior egment pathology, ytemic illne, laterality of the eye, type of anetheia ued during urgery, placement of intraocular len, viual acuity (pre- and potoperative), and potoperative complication. All patient had a minimum follow-up of 3 month. elf-ealing uturele PPV wa not performed in eye with viually ignificant poterior egment pathology, in monocular patient, or in eye in which there wa poterior dilocation of nuclear fragment during cataract urgery. Reult The final bet-corrected viual acuity wa 20/40 or better in 96.5% of the patient. The complication rate compared favorably with previou tudie of viual outcome after cataract urgery. Concluion elf-ealing uturele PPV i a afe, reliable adjunct for managing vitreou lo during phacoemulification and lead to rapid viual recovery
