Abstract :
Purpoe The aim of thi tudy wa to decribe the clinical and angiographic repone of quamou cell carcinoma (CC) of the conjunctiva to treatment with photodynamic therapy (PDT). Deign Interventional cae erie. Method In a propective tudy, three patient (62 to 86 year old) with CC of the conjunctiva were treated with PDT. Patient received one to three treatment of verteporfin (6 mg/m2 body urface area, intravenouly). The light doe wa calculated a 50 J/cm2. All tumor were irradiated 1 minute after injection. The mean follow-up time wa 8.6 month (7 to 12 month). Main outcome meaurement were clinical and angiographic repone and treatment-related ide effect. Reult One week after treatment, angiographic occluion of tumor vaculature and normal conjunctival veel wa oberved in all patient. Tumor regreion wa noted in all patient 1 month after treatment. Two patient had complete regreion (clinical and angiographic obervation) after one or two treatment for the entire follow-up time. One tumor involved large apect of the conjunctiva and cornea. In thi cae, only the treated area howed tumor regreion. PDT caued minimal temporary local irritation in two patient, and mall conjunctival hemorrhage and mild tranient chemoi in the three eye directly after treatment. One patient had infuion-related back pain. Concluion The preliminary reult of thi tudy ugget that PDT may be a valuable addition to the treatment of patient with CC of the conjunctiva. However, longer follow-up i neceary to ae the duration and degree of tumor control.
