Abstract :
Purpoe
Evaluation of viual acuity outcome of photodynamic therapy with verteporfin for ubfoveal choroidal neovacularization (CNV) econdary to multifocal choroiditi.
Deign
Open-label, propective, interventional cae erie.
Method
Thirteen patient (13 eye) diagnoed with ubfoveal CNV aociated with multifocal choroiditi at the Eye Clinic of Triete and Udine were conidered for the tudy. Incluion criteria were the preence of ubfoveal CNV no larger than 5,400 μm in greatet linear dimenion and bet-corrected viual acuity, nellen equivalent, of approximately 20/400 or better. The primary outcome wa the number of eye that had fewer than 8 letter lot (le than approximately 1.5 line) at the 12-month examination compared with the baeline examination. econdary outcome included fluorecein angiographic feature uch a progreion and CNV ize.
Reult
Baeline and final bet-corrected viual acuity were 0.52 logarithm of the minimal angle of reolution (20/62−2 nellen equivalent) and 0.55 logarithm of the minimal angle of reolution (20/62−2 nellen equivalent), repectively. By the 12-month viit, one patient (7.7%) had gained at leat 1.5 line, two patient (15.4%) had lot 1.5 or more line, and no patient lot 3 or more line of viual acuity, wherea 10 patient (84.6%) howed le than 1.5-line change. Mean CNV area wa 0,69 mm2 and 0.63 mm2 at baeline and at the 12-month viit, repectively. By the month 12 examination, patient had received an average of 1.7 treatment.
Concluion
Photodynamic therapy may be conidered a viable therapeutic option for ubfoveal CNV aociated with multifocal choroiditi at leat for a 1-year period. Further tudie with longer follow-up are needed to confirm thee reult.
