Herpe implex viru-1–aociated congenital cataract

Purpoe To report aociation of herpe implex viru-type 1 (HV-1) in four cae of congenital cataract. Deign Propective interventional cae erie. Method Four infant younger than 12 month, preenting with unilateral or bilateral congenital cataract, were included. The cae were clinically evaluated by the pediatric ophthalmologit. The len apirate collected at the time of cataract urgery were proceed for HV-1 culture in rabbit corneal epithelial (IRC) cell line and for HV-1 DNA by polymerae chain (PCR). The era of the children and the mother were teted for HV-1 immunoglobulin (Ig) M and IgG by enzyme linked immunoorbent aay (ELIA). Reult HV-1 wa iolated in tube culture in three of four len apirate, and all four len apirate were poitive for HV-1 DNA by PCR. erum HV-1 IgM wa poitive in all babie and in three cae HV-1 IgM wa poitive in the motherʹ erum. Concluion Baed on a computerized literature earch, we believe thi may be the firt report of HV-1 aociated congenital cataract.
