Purpoe To determine whether multivariable rik factor aement can be a ucceful in developing dieae prevention trategie in patient with ocular hypertenion a it ha been in patient at rik for coronary heart dieae (CHD). Deign From a literature review of the evolution of the global rik aement model for CHD, parallel are drawn to the evolution of a global rik aement methodology for glaucoma. Method Thi article ummarize the literature on global rik aement and prevention of CHD in clinical practice, dicue the development of glaucoma rik aement baed on available trial and population data, and review the potential for prevention trategie founded on the cardiovacular dieae model. Reult To improve rik aement in glaucoma and develop dieae management trategie for patient with ocular hypertenion, it i firt neceary to identify and quantify level of rik aociated with factor that predict dieae progreion. In addition, the incidence of glaucoma and the average peronʹ life expectancy baed on hi or her age are needed. Finally, it i neceary to quantify how long it take to develop a viual defect that affect quality of life once a peron develop glaucoma. Concluion The ytematic application of epidemiologic data to CHD rik factor model provide inight into how global rik aement can be incorporated into treatment recommendation for managing individual with glaucoma. It i hoped that ophthalmologit can ue the reult of future clinical trial and long-term tudie to develop dieae prevention trategie in patient with ocular hypertenion baed on multivariable rik aement.
