Abstract :
Purpoe
To examine the influence of age, leion ize, degree of myopia, and baeline viual acuity on the viual outcome of patient with pathologic myopia and choroidal neovacularization (CNV) who received photodynamic therapy (PDT) with verteporfin.
Deign
Retropective, noncomparative conecutive cae erie.
Method
Forty-three eye of 41 patient were treated in a two-year time pan; 36 eye of 36 patient who had received PDT for CNV due to pathologic myopia were examined for the above-mentioned factor 24 month after firt treatment.
All patient had been treated according to the Verteporfin in Photodynamic Therapy (VIP) tudy criteria. Patient were examined in two- to three-month interval with nellen viual acuity, biomicrocopy, and fluorecein angiography.
Reult
Baeline viual acuity and age were both prognotic factor for viual outcome (P = .0097, P = .0055). Leion ize (greatet linear dimenion) at baeline, refractive error, or the number of treatment had no influence on the outcome.
Concluion
Age and baeline viual acuity have an effect on viual outcome in patient receiving PDT due to CNV econdary to pathologic myopia. Younger patient and patient with higher baeline viual acuity had a better treatment outcome.
