Eyelid bleeding and atypical amyloidoi

Purpoe To decribe a cae of atypical ytemic amyloidoi in a patient who preented with recurrent ubcutaneou bleeding of the eyelid and auricle. Deign Obervational cae report. Method A 52-year-old man with chronic cardiac failure, hypertenion, weight lo, and impotence preented with recurrent bleeding of the eyelid and auricle, and wa invetigated for upected amyloidoi. Reult Biopy pecimen taken from the bone marrow, alivary gland, abdominal ubcutaneou fat, and gatric mucoa, and eyelid were all negative for Congo red. Reult of a conjunctival biopy, which were returned after the patientʹ death, and cardiac mucle autopy were poitive for Congo red taining, indicating amyloidoi. Concluion The finding in thi cae how that the preentation of amyloidoi may be atypical. Ophthalmologit hould conider a diagnoi of amyloidoi in patient with periorbital bleeding, even if biopie are negative for Congo red. A conjunctival biopy may be ueful in etablihing a diagnoi of primary ytemic amyloidoi.
