Abstract
The author reviewed the etiologic factor and complication of 219 conecutive patient (339 eye) younger than 16 year of age who preented with uveiti to a tertiary eye care center in Turkey. Of the 219 patient, 112 (51.1%) were girl with a mean age of 7.4 ± 4.2 year, and 107 (48.9%) were boy, with a mean age of 8.3 ± 3.4 year. Overall, the etiology of uveiti wa claified a idiopathic (24.2%), toxoplamoi (21.0%), juvenile rheumatoid arthriti (13.2%), par planiti (11.9%), Behcetʹ dieae (11.0%), Fuchʹ iridocycliti (4.1%), Toxocariai (3.2%), HV iridocycliti (2.7%), CMV retiniti (1.8%), ankyloing pondyliti (1.8%), tuberculoi (1.4%), traumatic (0.9%), arcoidoi (0.9%), ympathetic ophthalmia (0.5%), Vogt-Kayanagi-Harada yndrome (0.5%), Reiterʹ yndrome (0.5%), and poriatic arthriti (0.5%). Anatomically, anterior uveiti wa the mot common preentation (43.4%), followed by poterior uveiti (31.1%), panuveiti (13.7%), and intermediate uveiti (11.9%). Bilateral involvement wa mot commonly encountered with juvenile rheumatoid arthriti, par planiti, and Behcetʹ dieae. One or more ignificant complication occurred in 173 (51%) eye. The mot common complication were cataract (28.9%), maculopathy (17.4%), band keratopathy (10.9%), and glaucoma (8.3%). One or more urgical procedure were performed on 71 (20.9%) eye, mot of which were attributable to juvenile rheumatoid arthriti, par planiti, or Behcetʹ dieae. The mot common urgical intervention were cataract extraction with or without vitrectomy (15.3%), EDTA chelation (3.5%), peripheral cryotherapy (3.2%), and filtration urgery (1.8%).—Michael D. Wagoner
