Abstract :
The author conducted a retropective review of the refractive tatu, refractive tatu of the cornea, and axial length in the operated and nonoperated eye of 15 patient before (mean age at urgery = 10.3 year, range 5 to 15) and 4 to 15 year (mean, 9.7) after unilateral cataract urgery with intraocular len implantation. Viual acuity of 20/40 or better wa achieved in 12 (79%) eye. A mean myopic hift of −5.02D ± 1.09D wa preent between the potoperative refraction at the lat follow-up viit compared to the potoperative refraction at 1 year after urgery in the operative eye veru a mean myopic hift of −2.04 D ±0.51D in the nonoperated eye (Wilcoxon igned rank P < .01). The mean change in refractive power in even patient ≥ 11 year old at the time of urgery wa −3.59D ± 1.64D. There were no ignificant difference in the refractive power of the cornea or the axial length between the operated and nonoperated eye before or after urgery. The author conclude that myopic hift after cataract urgery with intraocular len implantation may occur, even in older children.—Michael D. Wagoner
