Abstract :
Purpoe
To invetigate the effect of cataract urgery on the concentration of moxifloxacin in aqueou and vitreou humor after topical application.
Deign
Propective laboratory intervention uing a rabbit model.
Method
Following topical adminitration of 0.5% moxifloxacin, 60 minute before urgery and immediately pot cataract urgery, aqueou and vitreou humor were ampled at 30, 60, and 120 minute poturgery. Moxifloxacin concentration were determined by high-preure liquid chromatography (HPLC). Mean tiue concentration obtained in urgical eye were compared with concentration obtained in nonurgical eye. The potential effectivene of moxifloxacin in providing prophylaxi againt intracameral bacterial inoculation wa invetigated by comparing antibiotic concentration to minimum inhibitory concentration (median MIC90) value for taphylococcu aureu and taphylococcu epidermidi.
Reult
In urgical eye, mean moxifloxacin concentration in aqueou were 13.9, 16.2, and 12.2 μg/ml veru 25.3, 32.6, and 15.7 μg/ml in nonoperated eye at 30, 60, and 120 minute, repectively. No tatitically ignificant difference were found between urgical and nonurgical eye. In urgical eye, mean moxifloxacin concentration in vitreou were 66.8, 66.6, and 400.2 ng/ml veru 43.1, 199.8, and 54.4 ng/ml in nonoperated eye at 30, 60, and 120 minute, repectively. Thee difference were not tatitically ignificant.
Concluion
There were no tatitically ignificant difference in the penetration of topical moxifloxacin in eye undergoing cataract urgery compared with unoperated eye. A multiple-drop chedule of moxifloxacin produced aqueou concentration that were well above the MIC of even reitant train of the mot common organim implicated in potcataract urgery endophthalmiti.
