Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluate the rate of recurrence of horizontal laxity or lid malpoition and uture-related complication aociated with the ue of an aborbable uture in the lateral taral trip procedure. Deign Propective, interventional, conecutive cae erie. Method A propective tudy. etting: Intitutional. patient population: One hundred patient with horizontal lid laxity aociated with ectropion or entropion. Patient with paralytic ectropion or ocular prothee were excluded. intervention: One hundred and five lateral taral trip procedure were performed uing a 6-0 polyglactin uture. Thee were combined with full-thickne kin graft (34), internal (55) or external (23) retractor plication, and inverting uture (4) a required to correct the lid malpoition. main outcome meaure: Recurrence of horizontal laxity or lid malpoition and uture related complication were the main outcome meaure. uture related wound infection wa diagnoed clinically by the preence of pu aociated with wound breakdown. Reult One patient failed to reach 3-month follow-up and wa excluded. There wa one recurrence of horizontal laxity after a mean follow-up period of 9.1 month. Four patient developed lateral canthal wound infection, compared with none at the other operative ite. The 95% confidence interval for infection in the taral trip procedure were 1.1% to 9.6%, which were ignificantly greater than zero (P < .0001), the infection rate for the other procedure. Concluion A 6-0 aborbable uture may be ued for the lateral taral trip and doe not lead to a recurrence of horizontal laxity. It doe not appear to reduce the wound infection rate aociated with thi procedure.
