Viual recovery after radiation therapy for bilateral ubfoveal acute myelogenou leukemia (AML)

Purpoe Preent a cae of bilateral foveal acute myelogenou leukemic tumor that reponded to radiation therapy. Deign Cae report. Method A patient wa diagnoed with bilateral ubfoveal infiltration of known ytemic acute myelogenou leukemia. He received a tandard induction chemotherapy, followed by conolidation therapy for hi ytemic leukemia. However, depite a complete marrow repone, the intraocular tumor did not regre. Therefore, he wa given low doe (1950-cGy) ocular external beam radiation therapy. Reult One coure of ytemic cytarabine chemotherapy failed to control the ubfoveal tumor, leaving the patient at rik for permanent viion lo. In contrat, external beam radiation therapy improved hi viion from 20/60 in hi right eye to 20/20 and from 20/70 in hi left eye to 20/25. Concluion Although ytemic chemotherapy can be ued to treat intraocular metatai, external beam radiation may provide more prompt reolution of viion-threatening tumor.
