Abstract :
Purpoe
To determine whether central corneal thickne (CCT) correlate with meaured intraocular preure (IOP) repone to topical ocular hypotenive medication in the Ocular Hypertenion Treatment tudy (OHT).
Deign
Propective randomized clinical trial.
Method
Intraocular preure meaurement were performed by Goldmann applanation tonometry. Central corneal thickne wa meaured by ultraonic pachymetry. The following indicator of IOP repone to topical ocular hypotenive medication were examined: (1) IOP after an initial four- to ix-week one-eyed therapeutic trial of a nonelective β-blocker (N = 549) or a protaglandin analog (N = 201); (2) the mean IOP repone during 12 to 60 month of follow-up among medication participant (N = 689); (3) the percentage of follow-up viit at which both eye met the treatment goal; (4). the total number of different medication precribed to reach treatment goal; and (5) the total number of different medication precribed multiplied by the number of month each medication wa precribed.
Reult
Central corneal thickne wa inverely related to the IOP repone after the initial one-eyed therapeutic trial and during 12 to 60 month of follow-up (P < .05). Mean CCT wa not correlated with the number of different medication precribed during follow-up, the total medication-month, or the percentage of viit at which IOP target wa met.
Concluion
Individual with thicker cornea had maller meaured IOP repone to ocular hypotenive medication than thoe with normal or thin cornea. We believe that CCT meaurement may be ueful in patient management and in interpreting clinical trial of ocular hypotenive medication.
