Abstract :
Purpoe To invetigate the morphologic change in upramid Extra uture harveted from patient diplaying recurrent ptoi who had undergone a frontali upenion for congenital ptoi. Deign Obervational cae erie. Method Uing canning electron microcopy, we examined the morphologic change in upramid Extra (. Jackon Inc, Alexandria, Virginia, UA) harveted from 20 conecutive patient (23 eyelid) with recurrent ptoi who had undergone frontali upenion. Diintegration wa graded a mild, moderate, or evere. Reult Examination of unued upramid howed the mooth urface of the heath and round, well-demarcated polyfilament on cro ection. However, implanted upramid howed different degree of diintegration. The urface of the heath had a rough texture with crack and peeling. On cro ection, an accumulation of debri among the polyfilament and irregular architecture with decreaed diameter of the polyfilament were noted in ome cae. On the urface of polyfilament, different degree of debri were noted in all cae. The degree of the change wa not exactly correlated with either the time of the recurrence or the duration of implantation. However, a the duration of implanted upramid increaed, greater change on the urface of the heath were noted. With implantation of le than 37 month, mild change (44%) were predominant; between 37 and 48 month, moderate change (60%) were noted, and with more than 48 month of implantation, evere change (44%) were predominant. Concluion upramid undergoe morphologic degradation by hydrolyi after implantation. Thi change might be conidered one of the poible factor that facilitate the recurrence of ptoi.
