Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate platelet aggregation in patient with retinal vein occluion (RVO) by the light-cattering method and compare the effect of three antiplatelet drug on aggregate formation.
Deign
Propective, nonrandomized, interventional clinical trial.
Method
(1) Platelet aggregation wa meaured in 42 patient with untreated branch RVO (BRVO), 26 patient with central RVO (CRVO), and 30 healthy control ubject uing a light-cattering platelet aggregometer. Platelet aggregate were claified a mall, medium, and large according to light intenity. Total light intenitie of each aggregate ize were compared between BRVO, CRVO, and control ubject. (2) In 33 patient with RVO, platelet aggregation before and 2 week after the adminitration of ticlopidine, beraprot, or apirin were compared.
Reult
(1) There wa a tatitically ignificant difference (P = 0.0073) between the control ubject (8.3 × 106 a.u.) and CRVO patient (22.9 × 106 a.u.) with repect to mall aggregate. There wa no tatitically ignificant difference with repect to medium and large aggregate formation between the control ubject and either patient group. (2) Compared with aggregate formed in the abence of antiplatelet drug, ticlopidine ignificantly inhibited only the formation of mall aggregate and beraprot that of all ize; apirin did not ignificantly inhibit the formation of any aggregate ize.
Concluion
Increae in mall platelet aggregate may be attributable to RVO pathogenei. Beraprot and ticlopidine appear to inhibit mall aggregate formation in RVO patient and may repreent effective antiplatelet treatment. The light-cattering method i ueful to invetigate the pathogenei of RVO and the effect of antiplatelet drug.
