Abstract :
Purpoe
To determine prevalence and aociation of viible lamina cribroa pore in an older population and ae whether thi feature i aociated with open-angle glaucoma (OAG).
Deign
Cae-control tudy neted within a large, population-baed cro-ectional tudy.
Method
The Blue Mountain Eye tudy examined 3654 peron (82.4% of permanent reident of a defined area) aged over 48 year. tereo optic dik photograph were taken and graded reliably in a maked fahion.
Reult
Lamina pore viibility wa aociated with larger vertical cup-dik ratio and optic dik diameter, hyperopic refraction, and male gender. Pore were lightly le viible with increaing age. They were viible in 70.8% of ubject with open-angle glaucoma but in only 29.3% of normal. Thi trong aociation diappeared after adjuting for other variable.
Concluion
Lamina cribroa pore are commonly viible in glaucoma ubject and le commonly in normal. Thi aociation, however, i almot entirely becaue of an increaed viibility aociated with larger vertical cup-dik ratio and optic dik ize.
