Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate the relative contribution of methamphetamine production-related accident to facial and ocular injurie admitted to a regional burn unit.
Deign
Retropective obervational cae erie.
Method
Chart review of all patient admitted to the Burn Unit at the Univerity of Iowa Hopital and Clinic (UIHC) over a 16-month interval.
Reult
Methamphetamine related accident were reponible for thirteen (9.8%) of 132 patient admitted with facial burn to UIHC during the tudy period. All victim were male. In addition to facial burn, eight patient (14 eye) uffered chemical or thermal burn of the ocular urface of Hughe grade I or wore. One patient required full-thickne kin graft for cicatricial ectropion of all four eyelid.
Concluion
In endemic area uch a Iowa, methamphetamine production accident contribute to a many a 10% of admiion to burn care unit for facial and ocular injurie.
