Abstract :
Early viual experience i indipenable to hape the maturation of cortical circuit during development. Monocular deprivation in infancy, for intance, lead to an irreverible reduction of viually driven activity in the viual cortex through the deprived eye and a lo of binocular depth perception. In thi tudy, the author teted whether or not early experience i alo neceary for color perception. Four infant monkey were reared for nearly a year in a eparate room where the illumination came from only monochromatic light. After extenive training, they were able to perform color matching. However, their judgment of color imilarity wa different from that of normal animal. Furthermore, they had evere deficit in color contancy; their color viion wa very much wavelength dominated, o they could not compenate for the change in wavelength compoition. The author conclude that early viual experience i alo indipenable for normal color perception.—Valérie Bioue
