Abstract :
Purpoe To define the prevalence and time coure of ignificant change in angle of deviation during the firt month after the diagnoi of infantile eotropia and to determine whether long-term alignment and enory outcome differ when urgical alignment i performed on infant with table v untable angle of deviation. Deign Propective cohort tudy. Method etting: Intitutional and clinical practice. patient population: Newly diagnoed patient with infantile eotropia (N = 208). obervation procedure: Preoperative meaurement of the angle of deviation on the initial viit and at approximate ix-week interval until urgery wa performed. main outcome meaure: Ocular alignment at ix week, one year, and four year potoperative and tereoacuity at age five to nine year. Reult Overall, 57% of infant had an eodeviation on the econd viit that wa within 10 prim diopter (p.d.) of the deviation meaured on the initial viit (table group), 33% had an increae of 10 p.d. or more (untable group), and 11% had a decreae of 10 p.d. or more. Among the 127 patient with additional preoperative viit, many witched between the table and untable categorie during follow-up. Long-term, table and untable preoperative alignment group had imilar potoperative motor alignment, re-operation rate, rate of precription of hyperopic, or bifocal pectacle correction and tereoacuity. Concluion It may not be neceary to wait for a “table” angle of eodeviation before urgery ince both alignment and enory outcome were imilar for table and untable group.
