Photodynamic therapy for retinal angiomatou proliferation and pigment epithelium detachment

Purpoe To evaluate reult of photodynamic therapy (PDT) with verteporfin for ubfoveal neovacular age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) with retinal angiomatou proliferation (RAP) and pigment epithelial detachment (PED). Deign Interventional cae erie. Method Thirteen eye (11 tage 2 and 2 tage 3 RAP) underwent PDT. Bet-corrected viual acuity (BCVA), fluorecein and indocyanine-green angiography were performed to evaluate the outcome. Reult After 13.5 ± 2.5 month and 1.7 ± 0.4 treatment, mean BCVA decreaed from 20/73 to 20/174 (P = .04). Occluion of RAP and flattening of PED wa oberved in three eye, and peritence of PED in ix. Two eye deteriorated to diciform leion, one developed hemorrhagic PED, and one evolved toward tage 3 RAP. Three eye, with PED exceeding 50% of the entire leion, developed retinal pigment epithelium tear. Concluion PDT might prove effective for neovacular ARMD with RAP and mall PED, wherea it might caue acute retinal pigment epithelium tear for RAP with PED exceeding 50% of the leion
