Abstract :
Purpoe
everal cro-ectional tudie have demontrated the capability of optical coherence tomography (OCT) to detect glaucomatou change. OCT enable poterior pole canning of three region: macula, peripapillary, and optic nerve head (ONH). Thi tudy compared the ability of each region to detect glaucomatou damage.
Deign
Retropective obervational cro-ectional tudy.
Method
The tudy included 37 normal (37 ubject) and 37 glaucomatou eye (26 ubject) that had comprehenive ocular examination, reliable and reproducible wedih interactive threholding algorithm tandard 24–2 perimetry, and tratu OCT canning of macula, peripapillary, and ONH region on the ame viit. Optical nerve head (ONH) appearance did not form part of the incluion criteria. The main outcome meaure, wa area under receiver operating characteritic curve (AROC) that wa calculated for each canning region for ditinguihing between normal and glaucomatou eye.
Reult
The highet AROC for ditinguihing between group were for ONH parameter (rim area = 0.97, horizontal integrated rim width = 0.96, vertical integrated rim area = 0.95) and peripapillary nerve fiber layer (NFL) thickne (0.94) followed by macular volume and thickne (both 0.80). A tatitically ignificant difference exited in ONH and NFL AROC when compared with macular AROC (P ≤ .007, for both)
Concluion
OCT ONH and NFL parameter provided imilar dicrimination capabilitie between healthy eye and thoe of glaucoma patient and uperior dicrimination capabilitie when compared with macular parameter.
