Abstract :
Purpoe
To decribe the clinical characteritic of uveiti occurring in patient with poriai and to compare them with patient with idiopathic anterior uveiti and HLA-B27-aociated anterior uveiti.
Deign
Cae-control tudy.
Method
The chart of 36 patient with a diagnoi of uveiti and poriai viiting the Immunology and Uveiti ervice at the Maachuett Eye and Ear Infirmary between January 2000 and December 2001 were reviewed. Clinical characteritic, therapy, and outcome of uveiti were compared with 30 randomly elected patient with either idiopathic anterior uveiti or with HLA-B27-aociated anterior uveiti.
Reult
The mean age at preentation for uveiti wa ignificantly higher in patient with poriai compared with nonporiatic group (44.6 year in HLA-B27-poriatic patient v 35.9 year in HLA-B27− nonporiatic patient, P = .034; 52.7 year in HLA-B27+ poriatic v 35.7 year in HLA-B27+ nonporiatic patient, P = .001). Uveiti in patient with poriai alo tended to be bilateral (62%) and prolonged (11.2 week). HLA-B27+ patient with poriai required upplemental therapy with oral nonteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.41 to 5.36, P = .003) for anterior uveiti more often than did the HLA-B27+ nonporiatic group. Patient with poriai and uveiti who were HLA-B27+ required oral NAID (95% CI 1.51 to 9.79, P = .001) for anterior uveiti more often than did HLA-B27− poriatic patient.
Concluion
Uveiti in patient with poriai may have ditinguihing clinical feature. Further epidemiologic tudie are required to determine the trength of aociation between poriai without arthriti but with uveiti.
