Abstract :
Purpoe
To tudy the relation between preoperative macular change and urgical outcome in vitreomacular traction yndrome.
Deign
Propective tudy.
Method
We propectively examined 14 eye of 13 patient (aged 48 to 82 year; mean 66.1) with vitreomacular traction yndrome uing optical coherence tomography (OCT) before and after vitreou urgery.
Reult
OCT demontrated two type of partial poterior vitreou detachment: incomplete V-haped detachment in 10 eye (group 1) and partial detachment temporal to the fovea but attached naally in 4 eye (group 2). Preoperative OCT howed foveal retinal detachment in all eye in group 1; the detached retina wa intact in 2 eye and edematou with (6 eye) or without (2 eye) cytic change. After urgery, thee 10 eye had a normal foveal configuration accompanied by viual improvement. In group 2, 3 of the 4 eye had prominent cytoid macular edema (CME) without foveal retinal detachment before urgery. After urgery, 2 eye developed a full-thickne macular hole, 1 had peritent CME, and 1 developed macular atrophy. The viual acuity decreaed in 2 eye and remained the ame in 2 eye.
Concluion
Two type of vitreou traction develop in vitreomacular traction yndrome: an incomplete V-haped poterior vitreou detachment that lead to foveal retinal detachment, the urgical outcome of which i favorable, and partial poterior vitreou detachment temporal to the fovea in which prominent CME developed, which may reult in a macular hole or macular atrophy potoperatively.
