Abstract :
Purpoe To tudy a new urgical option of primary placement of a hydroxyapatite-coated leeve into the Bioceramic implant during enucleation or eviceration. Deign Retropective, obervational cae erie. Method A tandard enucleation or eviceration wa performed, followed by the preplacement of a hydroxyapatite-coated leeve into the Bioceramic implant. Care mut be taken to enure the leeve ha been poitioned centrally when the implant i put inide the orbital ocket. Complication uch a leeve expoure, Bioceramic implant expoure, and infection were cloely oberved. Reult Twenty-even patient were treated in above fahion with five enucleation and 22 eviceration procedure. Five of the leeve have expoed pontaneouly during 1 to 4 month after original urgery. They had no further complication, except for one leeve around which there were viible Bioceramic picule attributable to long-term corticoteroid uage. The remaining 22 leeve that did not pontaneouly expoe purued econdary expoure of the leeve and peg inertion by the conjunctival cutdown procedure 3 month potoperatively. One leeve wa medially poitioned far away from the implant center. Re-inertion of new leeve and peg wa cheduled 2 week later. One additional leeve wa obliquely poitioned after conjunctival cutdown procedure. Fortunately, all 27 patient were uccefully fitted with a peg-coupled prothei with good motility. Concluion Primary placement of a hydroxyapatite-coated leeve into the Bioceramic implant ha everal advantage, including high patient acceptance, technical implicity, and an office-baed conjunctival cutdown pegging procedure. By avoiding the expene of potoperative imaging tudie and additional prothetic modification, a more rapid and efficient rehabilitation i poible
