Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate poterior ubtenon injection of triamcinolone acetonide for refractory diabetic macular edema (DME).
Deign
Retropective, interventional, cae erie.
Method
etting: Clinical practice. patient population: Patient with peritent clinically ignificant DME involving the center of the fovea 3 or more month after one or more treatment of focal macular photocoagulation were included. Excluion criteria were a hitory of corticoteroid-reponive intraocular preure (IOP) rie, intraocular urgery within 3 month, and any laer treatment within 1 month. procedure: All patient received an ophthalmic hitory and examination including bet-corrected nellen viual acuity, IOP meaurement, anterior egment examination including evaluation of len tatu with LOC II criteria, dilated fundu examination, and a poterior ubtenon injection of 40 mg triamcinolone acetonide at baeline. Patient were reevaluated at 1, 3, 6, and 12 month after injection.
Reult
eventy-three injection were performed in 63 eye of 50 patient. The mean baeline viual acuity wa 20/80. Mean viual acuity ignificantly improved to 20/50 at 1 month, then tabilized to 20/65 at 3 month, 20/68 at 6 month, and 20/63 at 12 month. Complication were rare, with a tranient ignificant rie in intraocular preure at the 3-month evaluation and ptoi in two patient.
Concluion
Viual acuitie remained table or improved over a 12-month period after poterior ubtenon triamcinolone injection for refractory DME. There wa a tatitically ignificant improvement in viual acuity at 1 month.
