Abstract :
Purpoe To determine architectural difference between claic and occult choroidal neovacularization (CNV) in vivo. Deign Propective obervational cae erie. Method Twenty-two patient with acute CNV underwent fluorecein angiography and optical coherence tomography (OCT), which were analyzed by eparate blinded oberver. Reult In 87.5% of angiographically labeled “claic” CNV a dicreet ubretinal leion correponding to the neovacular complex could be een above and eparate to the retinal pigment epithelium on OCT. Thi wa found in only 13.3% of “occult” CNV. Concluion With the latet commercially available OCT equipment it i now poible to confirm in vivo the previouly propoed anatomic difference between fluorecein angiographically labeled claic and occult CNV. Claic CNV appear to grow predominantly in the ubretinal pace, wherea the majority of occult leion do not. Optical coherence tomography feature of CNV may correlate with repone to photodynamic therapy or angiotatic treatment, a well a predicting the ucce of urgical removal.
