Abstract :
Purpoe Retinal microfold attributable to retinal veel were firt oberved after vitrectomy for myopic foveochii and were believed to indicate inward retinal traction, poibly leading to high myopia-pecific retinal dieae. We report retinal microfold in high myopia without vitrectomy. Deign Obervational cae erie. Method Thi i an intitutional tudy. even eye of even patient in which retinal microfold were oberved uing optical coherence tomography (OCT) were included in the tudy. We ued an OCT-ophthalmocope to confirm the precie location of the microfold. We alo invetigated the relationhip between the preence of microfold and ubjective ditortion detected by examination of the correponding retinal area uing the Amler grid chart in three eye. Reult All microfold detected by OCT coincided with the retinal veel uing the OCT-ophthalmocope. The fold coincided only with the retinal arteriole in ix eye (86%) and with both arteriole and vein in one (14%). ubjective ditortion wa detected in the retinal area correponding to the microfold in two eye (67%) but wa not detected in one eye (33%). Concluion The incidence of retinal microfold i 2.9%, and thu they are not uncommon in highly myopic eye without vitrectomy. The coincident appearance of the fold and veel ugget that inflexibility of the retinal veel and retinal tretching attributable to ocular elongation may caue the microfold. The preence of thee microfold indicate that inward retinal vacular traction could be common in highly myopic eye.
