Abstract :
Purpoe
To quickly examine the long-term retained oily-like material on the intraocular len (IOL) of a uturele cataract urgical patient.
Deign
Obervational cae report.
Method
Fourier tranform infrared (FT-IR) and confocal Raman micropectrocopie were ued to identify the depoited material on explanted IOL.
Reult
A 70-year-old man underwent a uturele cataract urgery for hi right eye. Garamycin ophthalmic ointment wa potoperatively applied on the conjunctival fornix. Hi viion wa improved to 20/25 after urgery but declined gradually to 20/400 half a year later. An oily-like hump on the anterior urface of IOL wa found and he underwent IOL exchange after approximately 3 year. The oily-like material wa identified by uing FT-IR and Raman micropectrocopie to be garamycin ophthalmic ointment.
Concluion
Both FT-IR and Raman micropectrocopie can eaily examine the retained antibiotic ophthalmic ointment on the IOL. Direct acce of ophthalmic ointment into ocular anterior chamber through the uturele inciion i a potential rik.
