Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate the correlation between improvement in viual acuity and the reduction of foveal thickne after a ingle intravitreal injection of 4 mg of triamcinolone in diabetic macular edema.
Deign
Propective, interventional, nonrandomized clinical trial.
Method
patient In a propective tudy 24 eye with diabetic macular edema were treated with an intravitreal injection of 4 mg of triamcinolone acetonide. main outcome meaure: Bet-corrected logMAR viual acuity and optical coherence tomography were performed at baeline and 3 month after the treatment.
Reult
At baeline the average foveal thickne wa 462 ± 154 μm (95% confidence interval, 397–527 μm) and at 3 month 257 ±114 μm (95% confidence interval, 209–305 μm) (P< .0001). The bet-corrected logMAR average viual acuity wa 60.5 ± 10.5 (95% confidence interval, 56.0–65.0) ETDR letter at baeline compared with 65.5 ± 11.1 (95% confidence interval, 60.8–70.1) 3 month after the injection (P = .0001). There wa no correlation between the improvement in viual acuity and the reduction of foveal thickne (r = 0.054, P = .8), but there wa a correlation between reduction in foveal thickne and the age of the patient (r = 0.53, P = .008).
Concluion
A ingle injection of 4 mg of intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide effectively reduce the foveal thickne in diabetic macular edema and improve viual acuity, but there doe not appear to be a trong correlation between the reduction of foveal thickne and the improvement in viual acuity.
