Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluate whether variou type of chronic open-angle glaucoma differ in predictive factor for progreion of glaucomatou optic nerve damage. Deign Obervational cohort tudy. Method etting: Propective obervational clinical tudy. patient: 517 eye of 300 Caucaian patient with chronic open-angle glaucoma with elevated intraocular preure (primary open-angle glaucoma, n = 289; econdary open-angle glaucoma, n = 50) and with normal intraocular preure (n = 178). obervation procedure: During follow-up (median: 49 month, 6 month-130 month), all patient underwent repeated evaluation of color tereo optic dik photograph and white-on-white viual field examination. main outcome meaure: Progreion of glaucoma wa defined a neuroretinal rim lo during the tudy period. Reult For patient with elevated intraocular preure, ignificantly predictive factor for eventual progreion were older age, advanced perimetric damage, maller neuroretinal rim, and larger area of β zone of parapapillary atrophy. In contrat, in the normal intraocular preure group, a ignificant predictive factor wa preence of dik hemorrhage at baeline. Within the patient with elevated intraocular preure, the primary open-angle glaucoma group and the econdary open-angle glaucoma group did not differ in predictive factor for progreion of glaucoma. Concluion Open-angle glaucoma patient with normal intraocular preure and open-angle glaucoma patient with elevated intraocular preure differ in predictive factor for eventual progreion of glaucomatou optic nerve damage. It may have clinical importance and may be helpful in the dicuion of the pathogenei of the glaucoma.
